How to Make Beautyberry Jam

Ingredients:
  • 6 cups of berries, free of stems and leaves,
  • 8 cups of water,
  • 4 cups of sugar,
  • 1 package of low-sugar pectin.
Steps for Cooking Callicarpa americana Jam:
  1. Bring the mixture of 8 cups of water and 6 cups of berries to a boil,
  2. Cook covered for 20 minutes,
  3. Uncover and smash the berries with a large wooden spoon,
  4. Cover and allow the mixture to cook for 20 minutes on low to medium heat,
  5. Strain the mixture to remove the tiny seeds and any other remaining plant material,
  6. Continue to boil until the mixture is reduced to only 4 four cups,
  7. Add only ½ cup of sugar and complete package of the low-sugar pectin allowing to come back to a boil,
  8. Add the remaining sugar bringing to a hard boil for 60 seconds,
  9. Remove from heat and pour into mason jars,
  10. Seal the mason jars and process in boiling water for 10 minutes,


How to Make Beautyberry Natural Insect Repellent

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup of crushed Beautberry leaves,
  • 4 ounces of rubbing alcohol,
  • 2 drops of desired body wash or spray (personal choice),
  • Personal size spray bottle,
Steps for Making Your Own Insect Repellent:
  1. Put crush leaves into a mason jar,
  2. Cover the crushed leaves with the rubbing alcohol,
  3. Let stand for 2 days,
  4. Strain the mixture free of the leaves,
  5. Add two drops of your body wash or spray,
  6. Pour into a mini personal sprayer.


  7. *Reapply every couple of hour for best results.


How to Make Beautyberry Insect Repellent Cream

Ingredients:
  • Bark from the roots,
  • Leaves fresh or dried,
  • 1 cup of neem oil,
  • 1 ounce of beeswax,
  • 2 cups of boiling water,
Steps for Making Insect Repellent Cream:
  1. Cut up bark, stems and leaves,
  2. Bring two cups of water to a boil,
  3. Add the diced mixture of Beautyberry bark, stems and leaves,
  4. Simmer for 10 minutes,
  5. Strain mixture,
  6. In a different pot warm the neem oil,
  7. Mix in beeswax until melted,
  8. Pour neem oil and beeswax mix, into a blender with the strained liquid,
  9. Mix slowly until a cream if formed.


  10. *This is perfect for all day uses even in the hot summer months, 1 applications is needed for all day relief


How to Make Beautyberry Tea

Ingredients:
  • Bark from the roots,
  • Leaves fresh or dried,
  • Ripe berries,
  • 1 cup of boiling water,
Steps for Brewing Callicarpa americana Tea:
  1. Bring 8 ounces of water to a boil,
  2. Mix in the mixture of diced bark, leaves and berries,
  3. Simmer mixture for 20 minutes,
  4. Strain the tea and serve hot, you can refrigerate for up to 1 week,
  5. Repeat daily until the skin ailment is no longer present.
